Why Did I Have Sever Cough With Phlegm And Blood After Having A Laryngectomy For Vocal Cord Cancer?
I am a laryngectomy already for vocal cord cancer. I had a severe coughing attack on Thursday in which I coughed up a lot of phlegm and blood and also mucus coming from my throat and had severe pins and needles in chest. Only lasted about 15 minutes and than was fine. Did not feel sick. However, last night started with left side of throat hurting a little. Not much so I took Bromfeld DM and went to bed. However, just had severe coughing attack where I could not catch my breath and coughing up blood and some mucus and than spitting up some mucus but those pins and needles in my chest made me feel like I was going to die. Should I just call a doctor or go to ER to be checked out?
Regarding your query for phlegm with blood and severe coughing and feeling of pins in your chest are all indicative of infection in respiratory tract. As you said that you were a patient of cancer vocal cords and for that Laryngectomy had already beed done, this should also be consider in examination. According to your clinical history possibility of blood in phlegm are-
1- Acute respiratory tract infection.
2- Recurrence of cancer.
To rule out above possibilities you should consult your ENT doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Since you were having cancer vocal cords therefore thorough examination is must as to diagnose early stage of pathology for good results.
