Why Do CA Level Arise After Breast Cancer?

My mother was treated for breast cancer ( T2N1M0) in left breast in june 2008 ( mascetomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy). Her CA 15.3 level were normal till jan 2011. In july 2011 test CA 15.3 level rose to 69 and we got her PET test which was absolutely normal. Now again her tests were done in jan2012 and CA 15-3 value is 139.What does that mean? do we need to worry.

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein and I will try to help you as much as I can.

This is still not reason to worry if PET scan was fine. YOu need to repeat marker in 1 month and then if there is elevation of 20%,you should do PET scan again.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
