Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a splenectomy on December 19th. My bowels are just beginning to become regular. I had soft bowel movement on Dec 24th. My first movement since then was this am. I have been taking stool softeners and the last laxative I took was on Dec 23rd. This am I had a small bowel movement. There was blood along stool as if a stripe. Is this normal/ I do not have a fever and am not in pain.
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, if this was the constipation then blood stained stool is likely even the laxative may cause this, so try not to take the laxative, stool softener can be used like Isabgol, beside this have more fiber containing diet, drink more water, if the blood stained stool keep coming continue then it may requires some investigation, first stool needs to be sent for lab test for confirmation, but in absence of other clinical symptoms it may not be the serious condition so no need to worry about this, hope this information helps.
