Why Do I Have Grainy Feeling On My Tongue?

HI, I am a 42 year old woman and have been experiencing a grainy feeling ( with my tongue) on my hard palate. I smoke ( 12 cigs a day) and have had bouts of sinus related allergies over the past three months. I also went through two rounds of antibiotics, one for throat infection and the other for a tooth infection over a period of two months. The texture is on either side of the palate and the center is clear. It is light grey and white in color and painless. Having antihistamines and lots of water seems to diminish the grainy feeling but it does come back. I have been having this problem for the past 6 weeks now. I have been smoking for the past 12 years.
Please let me know what you think this could be.
Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi. The grainy feeling and the color suggests me of a fungal infection. It is usually painless. I hope you are not a diabetic. Smoking reduces the local immunity s enhances the problem. If there are no elevated areas or ulcers, there is nothing much to worry about. A consultation with an ENT Surgeon would help you to diagnose and treat.
