Why Does Food Keep Getting Stuck In Throat That Leads To Choking And Vomiting To Clear The Throat?

Hi, for about the past 4-5 years, I have had trouble with some foods getting stuck in my throat, causing me to choke an having to throw-up to clear the throat. Sometimes it could be not chewing food up well enough, but it feel like maybe the esophagus is too thin for the food to slide through.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

We have to look for possible causes like any mass or tumor on the upper throat or food pipe. Other possibility is severe gastric reflux. As a first line of management you can take antacids like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist, better to consult a gastroenterologist and plan for a endoscopy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
