Why Does My Foetus Have No Heartbeat At 8 Weeks Pregnancy?

im a39yrs old and 8 weeks pregnant currently. I had 2 vaginal wond ultrasounds last week..both had same report, no fetus, no heartbeat...I drew blood 2 x in 48 hours and the first level was 54000, 2nd -60000. now they want me to wait another week for ultra scan. ......I m so confused as to whats going on????? please help!!!

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
If fetal pole and fetal cardiac activity are not seen at 8 weeks of gestational age, the possibilities are:
-Blighted ovum. Means gestational sac will develop without fetal pole and cardiac activity.
In that case, termination of the pregnancy is advised.
-Wrong dates. Sometimes gestational age could be wrongly calculated.
In that case better to wait for one to two weeks and repeat ultrasound.
As there is some increase in beta hcg levels, better to wait for one more week and repeat ultrasound.
