Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why Does The BP Medications Lower The BP And Pulse Rate?
I have high blood pressure, but most medications I take, will lower my b/P but drops my heart rate too low, around 52. for this reason have difficulty taking any type of medication, beta blockers etc. have high sensitivity to medications. would like to find medication that lowers b/p but not drop heart rate so low. Have gone through a whole list of H.P meds, with my specialists. Have had stress tests and all is O.K.
Welcome to HCM.I understand your query. Most of the commonly used anti hypertensive drugs with initial doses are associated with reflex tachycardia(increased heart rate) rather than lower pulse rate.Beta blockers are actually one of the preferred agent in that case which keeps the heart rate in control with lower effective doses. Please provide your present list of blood pressure drugs to help you better. With this limited information, would suggest a trial with centrally acting anti hypertensive drugs like methyldopa, clonidine if other common drugs cause you the problem after discussing with your clinician.Hope this information helps you.Thank you.
