Why Has Soreness Around Injury After Months Persisted?

My son fell from his bicycle and hurt his knee. That was 3 months ago. There appeared this nob on his knee and I knew it was related to the fall but it hasn t gone away. And when I ask him about it he says it s not sore. Is it something I should be worried about or not.
