Why Have I Had Severe Hair Loss Postpartum Of My Second Child?

Hi i am 32 years old female. Mother of two daughters. My hairs are generally not that good nor do they grow much. But i have been experiencing sever hair loss since the birth of my second born. She is now 15 months old but i have lost nearly 80% of my hairs and they are not stopping. I saw a dermatologist recently. She prescribed me Novophane anti hairloss lotion. Plus multivitamins. I want to know is there some difference in novophane and minoxidil? Because i read that mostly for hairgrowth minoxidil is prescribed. I m confused because the spray in quite expensive. Does it really work?

Hi,

Novophane is a drug, which is brand name of a generic ingredient finasteride. Minoxidil is also another generic drug. Both of these are used for treating hair loss. Though many a comparative studies are available for their comparative efficacy, side effects and reviews etc., there is not an agreeable consensus between the results of different studies.

Therefore, the prescription of one of the two is based on the experience & assessment of different dermatologist. Also, for your knowledge, there are products available, which contain both the ingredients--Finasteride as well as Minoxidil. These may be more effective, but very limited comparative studies are there on the efficacy / side effects while using both in combination vs isolated use of each of the two.
