hello i have pityriasis rosea and i was prescribed terbinafine hydrochloride. (lamisil) i ve been doing some research and it says there is no medication needed for pityriasis rosea and it says it s not a bacterial or fungal thing but lamisil is for fungal. i m just curious as to why lamisil has been prescribed to me? i ve been taking it for 10 days now and there s no change if anything it s just spready more!
Pityriasis rosea is a self limiting skin condition and it presents with a itchy rash on the back .It has a possible viral etiology. Antifungal drugs like Terbinafine are not required for it.Rather Azithromycin tablet can be used for its immunomodulatory action. Also Acyclovir is another treatment option. Topical mild steroid cream like mometasone can be applied over the affected area along with oral antihistamines like fexofenadine. Consult your dermatologist regarding the above mentioned therapy. Regards
