Why Is PET Scan Advised In Case Of Blocked Vein To Heart?
Last Satuday my father felt chest pain and admitted in famous heart hospital in Bangalore(India) and they took Angiogram and said the main vein is blocked 90% and they asked to take PET scan after a week. My question is why go to take PET scan and is it possible cure block by medicine?
Hi welcome to HCM. Pet scan is useful in evaluating the fraction of salvageable myocardium post arterial obstruction. It can document the extent of myocardium that can recover after in situ stent placement.90% blockade warrants percutaneous angioplasty. This is not cured by medicines alone.Restoration of adequate blood flow is the prime goal of management.A screening 2 dimensional echocardiogram of the heart can assess the ejection and pumping function of heart simultaneously.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you.
