Hello, Normally, in any uneventful pregnancy, labor is allowed to set in naturally and this happens from term, i.e., 37-38 weeks to 41-42 weeks. If the labor sets in earlier than this period, it is called 'preterm labor' and after this period, 'post-term labor.' When the fetus is post-term or post-mature, the placenta develops increased calcification and this may lead to reduced utero-placental circulation and fetal jeopardy. Hence, pregnancy is not allowed beyond this period and induction is usually done. Your friend had a similar situation and during induction, may have developed fetal distress which led to the abdominal delivery. Hope your query is clarified. Take care.
