Why Is Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome Not Considered As A Disability?
Why is cyclic vomiting syndrome not classed as a disbility in the uk. My daughter has had it for over seven years and still cannot get any benifits even though she has to be hospitalised sedated and on a drip. Every morning she wakes with being sick and most day ghas a mild form of it.
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) is a chronic functional condition of unknown etiology characterised by recurring attacks of intense nausea, vomiting and sometimes abdominal pain, headaches . The syndrome shows a strong association with migraine headaches, suggesting that some cases may be migraine variants. Cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) is classified under Functional vomiting, hence not given the status of disability per se. CVS typically develops during childhood, usually between ages 3 and 7; although it often remits during adolescence, it can persist into adult life. CVS isn't recognised by the NHS as a disability, making it difficult for sufferers to be treated. Many other countries recognise CVS as a disability (e.g. Italy).
