Why Is Flying Not Allowed When Suffering From Pneumonia?

Good mornning,
My Aunt who is 86 was diagnosed w/ pneumonia about 3 weeks ago. She was in the hospital for a week. She then last week went to her GP, and he told her not to make the flight from Chicago to Honolulu. Is there a specific reason as to why. I tried to find out however both her and her husband don't really understand what the Dr. told them just that she couldn't fly, any ideas.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Pneumonia in a elderly person is a cause of concern. Ideally she needs to be hospitalized to treat the same. As some complication may arise it is better to avoid flying as oxygen in cabin of flight is low. And due to her pneumonia her blood oxygen may be reduced which is dangerous to fly.
Don't worry, she will be alright.
Hope I have solved your query. Thanks.
