Why Is Pus Coming Out Of Gum After Using Hot Salt Water ?
I think my wisdom tooth is coming in and earlier today it was very swollen and just now I rinsed with hot salt water and i looked at it and picked up the flap gum with qtip and pus started coming out so what do I do now?
Hi,
Ideally a wisdom tooth if not coming out completely or creating difficlty in cleaning due to improper positioning requires extraction by an oral surgeon. Sometimes food gets deposited in between the flap over the errupting wisdom tooth and the tooth itself and it is almost impossible to clean it out resulting pus formation due to infe4ction. As there is presence of pus in that area you need to do warm saline gargles 3-4 times/day along with a good chlorhexidine mouthwash. You may require antibiotics and an anti inflamatory drug to reduce the swelling and remove the infection. These are temporary measures, i would strongly recommend you to visit your dentist for further treatment ie: extraction or operculectomy (cutting of the flap) for better oral hygiene.
Regards
hello and welcome to hcm,
as there is wisdom tooth insidethe muscle flap, so do not try to irritate the area. do not rinse it with hot salt water, but rinse it with warm salt water and betadine gargles are also very effective.
take appointment and get the surgical extraction done asap.
pus is due to regular irritation in the area as it gets hurt a lot, hence the condition appears.
According to your clinical symptoms i suppose that you are having Pericoronitis with your wisdom tooth, pus discharge is due to improper irrigation of the area, you need a antibiotics coverage like metronidazole, amoxicillin to reduce the swelling and infection. Get a checkup done by a Oral Surgeon, take an OPG radiograph. Depending upon the condition extraction of the wisdom tooth or operculectomy has to be performed.
hi... thanks for the query... the condition you described is called pericoronitis... you visit your dentist and got the area irrigated and cleaned... he will clean the area between your tooth and overlying gum... this space usually has tendency to harbor food debris... he will also make the area out of occlusion by slightly grinding the tooth in opposite arch, if required... also go for proper course of antibiotics and analgesic drugs... do warm saline rinse 6-7 times per day... after symptoms subside, go for radiographic analysis... if sufficient space seems to be available for the tooth to erupt, then allow it do so by excising or removing the gum part called operculectomy... if space doesn't seems to be available, then go for its extraction without any doubt... take care...
Hi, As your wisdom tooth is erupting, food accumulation occurs in the gum. Improper oral hygiene leads to inflammation of the gum resulting in pain and swelling. Consult your dentist for irrigation with betadine around the wisdom tooth. Take Amoxicillin and maintain good oral hygiene. Take Care
You need to rinse with warm saline water 3-4 times daily; maintain a very good oral hygiene.Pericoronitis(Infection around the third molar) is most commonly caused due to poor oral hygiene around the wisdon tooth.
If the problem doesnt subside you need to take a course of antibiotics, antiinflammatory and muscle relaxants according to your symptoms and age which can be prescribed by your dentist.
