Why Is The Baby Failing To Take The Oral Intake And Even Through NG Tube?
My son is 3 months old now and since birt has not been able to take more than 30mls of formula through a bottle he has lost half of his birth weight and is failing to thrive. He has many admissions into hospital which have not really had any answers to why he is failing to increase his oral intake. He is now got a NG tube in his nose but still does not tolerate his milk well the doctors have diagnosed him with probabl GORD, Micronythia and a high palate which Im not really satisfied with could there be a underlying condition which the doctors are missing? I am looking into having a 2nd opinion. He is overall quite a normal baby as I have had previous children. He is always unsettled and no 2 days are the same please advise.
Hi, Thanks for asking query on health care magic. First record his weight. He needs 150 ml of formula/day. Calculate the total formula required. give small frequent feeds gradually increasing the quantity day by day. YOU start with 30 ml/feed and give every 2 hourly. Keep the child in propped up position so that he will not regurgitate. AS the child tolerates this regimen gradually increase quantity and interval. Hope this answer will serve your purpose. Please feel free to ask any more queries if required. Take care Dr.M.V.Subrahmanyam MD; DCH. Associate professor of pediatrics, MIMS.
