Why Is The Indentation On The Shin With No Pain And What Us The Remedy For Awhscould Slaughter?
my daughter is 18 yrs old. she is 5'7 and 135lbs. Relatively healthy looking at her. On her shin she has an indentation, no pain or discomfort. She used to play basketball and had to stop playing 3 yrs ago as she suffers from Awhscould Slaughter (sp?). what are your thoughts?
Osgood schlatters disease is a form of traction apophysitis which is seen in younger age groups involved in sporting activities.
Treatment of this condition is always conservative by the following means - - Applying ice compressions once in 2-3 hours - Avoiding sporting and high impact activities - Use of analgesic and antiinflammatory medications to lessen the pain and inflammation. - Use of a knee immobilizer for a few days may improve compliance. Pads or braces also can be used for support. - Once the acute symptoms have passed off, quadriceps-stretching exercises may be performed to reduce tension on the tibial tubercle. Stretching exercises for the hamstrings are also to be performed.
There are no long term problems associated with this condition, other than having mild pain during kneeling position.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
