An artery, by definition, carries blood away from the heart. The pulm. artery (PA) goes from the Right Ventricle to the lungs and has yet to be oxygenated. So the blood there is oxygen low. The blood returns to the Left side of the heart where it is pumped out of the aorta with highly oxygenated blood. It's kind of a matter of semantics. Hope that this helped, mate.
