Why Is The Swelling Of The Pre-auricular Node Close To The Ear In An Infant Having No Pain And Is Solid And The Doctor Suggested It Could Be A Virus?

Hi My son is 18 months old, a happy little boy. However he has an enlarged pre-auricular node on the right side of his face, close to his ear. It has been there nearly 8 weeks, and it is about 0.7 cm. It changes colour from purple to red and its movable, but very solid. If I touch it, it does not hurting him. I have been to the GP 5 times in the last 8 weeks, and I have been told 5 times, it is only a virus. He hasnt got a cold or a sore throat. But the node has grown in the last 8 weeks. Please any idea, what it is? I am very concerned.

Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
The lymph node which is growing, and changing color to the red must be considered for treatment.
It may be secondary to the infection, in the mouth , nose, orear, or scalp, other reason may be the head lice.
I usually prescribe to my patient with such symptoms ofloxacin, mefanamic acid, and vitamin C.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.
