Why Is There A Great Difference In Systolic And Diastolic Blood Pressure ?
My mother is 86 and her BP is registering as 150/48 or thereabouts. She is presently in hospital with a spinal stenosis and other age related problems. What could be the cause of such a huge range in pressure? Her pulse is around 65 normally but presently about 90. She is around 55 kilos

You probably haven't understood the BP measurement. 150/48mmHg indicates that the SYSTOLIC BP is 150 and the DIASTOLIC BP is 48. They both are different measurements and not the same. Anyways, her systolic BP is above range, it should be within 140 and her diastolic BP is lower, as it should be above 60. Proper fluid management would help in this provided she has no heart disease. Consult her Doctor and see if her BP is picking well after treatment.
