Why Is There Difference Between Pregnancy Test Done At Home And Lab?

i had taken about 7 pregnancy tests and they were all positive, with a faint line. i missed my period by five days and went to the doctor and they took a urine test and said it was negative, i then went home and took two tests that same day and they were still positive. then today i started my period. i took a test later on today while still bleading and it still had the faint positive line. so confused!?

Hallow Dear,

Pregnancy test with faint line means that the test is weak positive. Such report is found in following conditions:

1. When the baby is not viable and the pregnancy is in the process of abortion.

2. Ectopic Pregnancy: The pregnancy implanted somewhere outside the uterine cavity. Majority of ectopic pregnancies are located in the tubes. Such pregnancies cannot continue. If in the tube, subsequently the tube ruptures and causes alarming bleeding inside the abdominal cavity requiring emergency surgical intervention and many units of blood transfusion. This condition is characterized by severe abdominal pain with some vaginal bleeding.

Ultrasonography will be of quite a help in differential diagnosis . If the uterine cavity is empty in spite of the positive (may be weak) pregnancy test, it indicates ectopic pregnancy. If partial products of conception are seen in uterine cavity, it is incomplete abortion which requires evacuation of the uterus.

Since you are having vaginal bleeding without any pan in abdomen, the chances of abortion are more.

Please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP.
