Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Why Is There No Difference Between Systolic Versus Diastolic BP?
my athletic daughter (triathlon, duathlon, cross-country, track) occasionally has little to no difference in systolic versus diastolic bp. today at a routine physical her bp was 82/80. the medical staff noted this was abnormal (duh) but was not alarmed and did not recommend she consult with any other doctors. i am not a doctor but i say this condition requires further study. what is your opinion?
Respected Madam Thanks for your query. First of all, It is really surprising to have no difference between systolic and diastolic BP. It is physiologically not possible. There has to be an error of measurement. I would recommend recording the BP again by an expert to sort out the issue. Possible reasons could be a very slow heart rate or premature beats leading to wrong calculation by automatic device. Sincerely Sukhvinder
