My son has a thick second toenail since birth, so much so at age four now that it is significantly higher than the rest. The one on the left is also thicker, but not near as prominent. It is not the type of shoe, nor does it appear to be fungal in nature...(not completely ruling it out). The rest of his toenail tend to curl in a slightly downward direction. Any comments? The pediatrician told us it is his shoes, but I know that's not the problem as he has had this condition since he was an infant.
