Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother who is 85 years old, has mitrel valve prolapse. She often complaints feeling of breathing difficulty. She was checked by 3 different cardiologist and all three had more or less the same opinion that she is suffering from anxiety. What do you think is the reason for her feeling of breathing difficulty, though she do not gasp for her berth.?
Hi. I understand your concerns. If the mitral prolapse is accompanied with moderate to severe mitral regurgitation, then further treatment is recommended. I would suggest performing an echocardiogram to assess it. The shortness of breath does not seem sever, as you describe it. My opinion is that she should be restricted to everyday activity and not performing heavy duties or activities. I hope I was helpful. Good day
