Hi,
- When used properly the calendar method, that is avoiding intercourse around the period of ovulation, can give around 91% protection rate.
- This mainly applies when your menstrual cycles are regular. But sometimes fluctuations in the menstrual cycles and ovulation can be seen due to different causes ranging from psychological factors like
stress and strain, changes in weight, diet, sleep, etc. due to effects on the reproductive
hormonal levels.
So because of any of these factors, if the time of ovulation altered, we cannot completely rule out the possibility of
pregnancy. So as you are 5 days delayed for your expected date of periods, please go for either urine or preferably
blood test for pregnancy to rule out the possibility.
If the test gives a negative result, you can wait for a few more days and possibly by that time you may get the menstrual bleeding. If you do not get the menstrual bleeding even after 4 to 5 days better to consult your gynecologist once and undergo an
ultrasound with this work up the possible cause of delayed period can be identified and you can take tablets for withdrawal bleeding with your doctor's advice.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
