Hello,

You are having recurrent throat ache. You have taken antibiotics for it but have no relief. Recurrent throat ache may be indicative of bacterial and viral infection, laryngitis, pharyngitis, acid reflux, throat cancer, elongated styloid process (styloid-stylohyoid syndrome), the small bone causes recurrent pain when elongation or calcification occurs.

You are suggested to gargle your throat with lukewarm salt water 3-4 times daily. Avoid talking, give voice rest. Take liquid diet or semi solid diet so that you don't hurt your throat. Take sips of water to prevent dryness of the throat. Get clinically examined by an ENT, get X-ray or CT scan done to detect your styloid process and stylohyoid ligament in detail.

Your treating doctor may ask you to get throat culture, MRI and PET done to detect malignancy or spread of cancer. Stay away from addictions if any. Take home made food. You will be treated (conservative, radiation, surgery) according to the severity of the pathology detected. They may include difficulty swallowing, a sensation of something stuck in the pharynx, shooting pains from the throat to the ear, pain at the base of the tongue, pain when turning the head, tinnitus or buzzing in the ears, headaches, or throbbing in the mandible.

Diagnosis rests with an X-ray image showing elongation of the styloid process with possible calcification of the stylohyoid ligament. The calcification may be extensive and appear to be jointed. Treatment for Eagle syndrome ranges from surgery to steroid injections. Conservative care, consisting of manipulation and physiotherapy, may provide relief as well.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
