Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently injured my calf playying baseball. Took some time off ice/heat thought it was okay. Returned to playing with calf taped up and re injured calf again. Now after 4 days, swelling has yet to go down on calf and foot is now showing swelling, also parts on foot have turned purple.
As the history mentioned you have had a sports injury and reoccurring of the same. I will advice you first take rest. Because most time people will use ice to reduce swelling and ice is also acting in reducing pain by which most people feels that the injury is healed and they take up the call for movement.
I feel you need to first immobilize the part involved in the injury. Dip feet in hot water and then elevate it using the pillow while lying down. After 3 days you can see if the pain and swelling is persisting, if so than an x-ray will be of good choice to rule out any fracture. If the fracture is not present then only it will be a muscular injury which will take about a week or so to heal.
But to undergo the game again, one needs to get assessed the overall strength of the muscles involved from a qualified physiotherapist so reoccurrence of Injury do not happen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
