Why There Is Heavy Cramping Like Periods When Finished Periods?

I am 34 years old and have 3 kids. I am not on birthcontrol and there is no way I could be pregnant. I finished my period 5 days ago. My periods have always been heavy and within the last year irregular. This morning I woke up to heavy cramping like period cramps, but as I stated just finished my period. Any ideas?

Hi,

Usually cramps can be seen just before and during periods. But sometimes can be seen after periods also, the possible cause are:

-Uterine causes like fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis
-Ovarian cysts, tubo ovarian mass
-Pelvic inflammatory disease, etc.
-Gastrointestinal causes like gastroenteritis, appendicitis, constipation etc.

If the cramps subside with antispasmodic tablet and will not recur, no need of active treatment.

If the cramps persist and/or recur in next menstrual cycle, better to consult your Gynecologist once, get examined and go for an ultrasound.

With this work-up the possible cause of your problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
