Why There Is Nerve Inflammation, Pain Behind Ear Even After Recovering From Bells Palsy ?

Hello, I suffered facial paralysis last year (Bells Palsy) which began with pain under my ear. 9 months later I have recovered about 90% of movement but still have nerve inflammation pain behind ear which my neurologist is treating with cortisone shots and Indocin. But I really am desperate for a diagnosis. I have nodules in my thyroid. and also was ANA positive recently.

Hi I did review your concern.
your condition can be related to an autoimmune condition.

Autoimmune conditions like SLE, sjogren syndrome, dermatomyositis can present with neurological conditions and bells palsy.

I would recommend you to get tested for anti DS DNA and anti smith antigen and other autoimmune markers like ANCA proteins.

They are treated with high dose steroids and immunomodulators when the diagnosis is made.

I hope this helps.
Wish you all the best.
