Why There Is No Fetal Heartbeat At 5 Weeks?

Hi Doctor my last menstrual date was 19 May 2014, i had sex on 31 may 2014 and last week thursday 10th july i went to the doctor he said based on the scan i was 5 week 4 dys which was confusing for me and the scan showed GS measuring 16mm but there was no hb noted or embryo he said, he did a pregnancy test again which showed that i am still pregnant ,and said i should come back after a month so that i can redo the scan and see any developments . i am so scared please tell me if i am just panicking its my first baby , i am 31 years old

Hi, thanks for using HCM..
I understand your concern.. Is your periods regular? If its regular u shd be 7 weeks by july10. There is a concept called delayed conception. By scan since the GS has appeared, u can wait for 2 weeks for the fetal pole and cardiac activity to appear..Usually GS appear by 5 weeks..Fp and cardiac activity appear by 6 weeks.. If you dont have and bleeding or pain abdomen then u can get a rpt scan after 2 weeks. Meanwhile get a hcg test to see the gestational age. I Think you neednot panic.. Hope i have answeredyour queries.. Good day.
