Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Will I Know If I Have Passed Worms After Having Vermox?
I am on day 3 of Vermox, but no worms in the toilet. There was what looked like chubby rice noodles after one bowel movement, crescent shaped, but that is all. It was a longer, mucous-like worm last week in the toilet which brought me to the doctors office (brownish/yellowish). Will I know when I have passed the worm(s)?
Hello, I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
You have to understand that Mebendazole does not kill the worm directly.
Actually mebendazole acts by blocking of glucose uptake by worms. As the uptake is blocked, it may live by using the reserves. Once the reserved glucose are exhausted, the worm dies and excreted in stool. This may take upto a week.
However, it may pass in the stool unknowingly if the worms are low. As mebendazole does not kill the ova and cysts, it is essential all members in famile get treated.
Hope this helps. Wishing you good health.
