Will Mesacol Medicine Affect The Foetus In Pregnancy?
hello doc, i'm 18 weeks pgnt and diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and the doc prescribed me mesacol medicine 3 times a day through out the pregnancy. I got relief in a weeks time only. kindly suggest whether this medicine will affect the fetus by any chance.

Hi, I have read your query & understood your concern. You have ulcerative colitis & need to control it sufficiently during the pregnancy period& avoid any exacerbation of the disease so that the pregnancy is uninsidental. - The Mesacol is said to be safe in pregnancy,that way also medicines can have bad effect on fetus in first 3 months.You have already passed that phase. So don't worry. - taking folic acid supplement would help. - in case you have symptoms of acidity- you can take antacid preparation like ranitidine to bypass the side effect of the drug. - regular antenatal check up are recommended.
