Will Nuchal Translucency Scan For Down Syndrome Affect The Child?

hi doctor , can i have your expert comments on " i am 35 year old lady & having my first pregnancy, my gynecological suggests me to go for NT/NB scan for down syndrome, should i go for it,is it safe for the baby kindly suggest.I am 9 weeks pregnent my LMP is 27th july 2012.

Hi, thanks for writing..
Yes, you should go for a NT scan.. It helps to pick up any down's syndrome or anomalies at the earliest since you are already 35 years old.. The baby wont be affected by ultrasound scan.. You need not worry about it.. The apt time of NT scan is between 11-14 weeks. Along with that you can give blood for hcg and PAPP-A which helps to rule out down's, trisomy13 and trisomy 18.
