Will Terbinafine Tablets Treat Seborrheic Dermatitis?
Hi. I have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis. The Dr. initially prescribed Ketaconazole shampoo but I hate to keep putting steroids on my body. I already take prednisone occasionally for my COPD flareups. I have been using apple cider vinegar which helps but it all over my head and also my crotch area. Now my PCP has prescribed Terbinafine tablets. Is that beneficial for my SD?
Hi. As per your case history of seborrheic dermatitis, my treatment advice is - 1. Avoid hair oil and other home remedies for 2 months. 2. Apply an antifungal lotion like clotrimazole lotion twice daily on affected region. Continue ketoconazole shampoo (it is not a steroid preparation). 3. Terbinafine is effective medicine for seborrheic dermatitis. So start it as per prescribed dose. 4. Other treatment options are oral ketoconazole, itraconazole and fluconazole taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
