Will An Infected Tendon In A Diabetic Patient Result In Foot Amputation?
hello doc..
my father is diabetic ,cortisteroids dependent, asthmatic, and heart patient.
he is having a wound cum ulcer near this achilles tendon wound is so deep that the is achillies tendon is visible . so we can sea that this tendont is black .. he is currently taking antiboitics to control the infection of the ulcer.and by god grace infection is in control. but doctors are saying that he is not able to walk because tendon may make his foot loose . so please suggest can he walk using a splint or a surgery is required..
Dear sir I can understand your concern I am very sorry about the condition of your father I am very happy to see that infection is under control when the bone got infected we need to go for amputation but the tendon infection will settle with out surgery in most case. but once the infection settled completely then the tendon repair procedure can be done which will help in walking. walking should be avoided until the wound is healed completely strict diabetes control with insulin is very important to Controll the infection and prompt growth in ulcer Regards Dr vamsi Diabetologist
