Will Antibiotics Prevent The Stitches On Cheek From Getting Infected?
Hi. My 8 year old daughter had 5 stitches on her cheek at emergency with 1 deep suture a couple of days ago. .After a bike accident there was a hole the size of a pencil though her cheek 1cm from her lip. Im questioning the time the suture should remain in. The Dr on duty said to come back to emergency in about 5 days and another Dr on duty will take them out. Im nto feeling confident . Im reading that most stitches stay in 7-10 days. THEre is a hole that needs to be healed and Im Im worried about it coming open if the stitches are taken out too soon. Im just looking for 2nd opinions. Thankyou Also, her cheek hurts. Im wondering if I should see a local Dr to put her on antibiotics to prevent it getting infected. Isnt prevention better than cure?
Any wound in the face will heal after 5 to 7 days, and we must remove the stitches after that. antibiotic is a must if there is an infection, not a prophylaxis.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
