Will Cataract Surgery Improve Vision Though Center Of Eye Has Been Destroyed?

I had surgery for macular degeneration, and the vision did not improve. Now I have as well cataract and I wander if I have that surgery will the vision improve, since we know the center of the eye has been destroyed .
As well I was reading that could be some substances injected in the eye to help the macular condition. Is there anything at all to be done ? . I read that there are implants , when one can search for such a solution ?
Thanks. P

Hello
Cataract surgery will not increase to improvement in the central vision in cases involving macular degeneration. However the peripheral vision may improve after cataract surgery.
The treatment for macular degeneration depends on type and severity of the disease. The treatment options are laser photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy, intravitreal injections of anti vascular endothelial growth factors.
The implants for people suffering from retinal diseases are not yet available as of now but they are still in experimental stage and can be available in n ear future.

Thank you

Till now there is no surgery or treatment for macular degenaration.Recently new VAGF drug have been injected into eye to check the progress of wet degenaration. There is no confirm result. Low visual ad telescopic lens implant in macular area attempted with no good result. So we have to remain with supportive treatment. Cataract surgery may improve vision a little since amount of light entry will increase. It may activate some part of macula. However eye doctor hasto make pre-operative evaluation.
