Will Encorate Cause Any Side Effects?
im suffering from genaral seizure frm past 6/7 yrs and im taking encorate 300 twice in day,but from last three yrs i havent had any fit ,do i need to take this medicine life long,i heard there are many side effect of this medicine.I am 35 yrs old n have two kids

Encorate contains sodium valproate that belongs to the group of medications known as antiepileptic medications is used in the treatment of epilepsy or seizures and bipolar disorders. Sometimes it is also used to prevent migraines. But like other medications this medication has some side effects of its own. Side effects are nausea, vomiting, lethargy, hair loss, drowsiness, weight gain, increased appetite, diarrhea or constipation, abdominal pain, abnormal thoughts, unusual tiredness and weakness, allergic reactions etc. Most of these side effects are mild and usually go away over time. But if any of these side effects persist for long or bother you then you should consult your doctor immediately for medical attention.

All medications have side effects, but to answer your question about how long to take medication would depend on the report of CT or MRI done prior to starting treatment. In case, there was no evident pathology on CT or MRI the medication started would usually continue for 5 years following which it can be gradually stopped if no break through seizures.
