Hi , my girlfriend has an enlarged spleen and we just found out she is pregnant on thanksgiving . ( 3- 4 weeks pregnant ) she has been hurting in her side , Shes 20 , and works at a nursing home as a cna . With her having a enlarged spleen how would that effect the pregnancy .
assuming that she has no other health problems, the enlarged spleen by itself should have no effect on the pregnancy. however if the reason for an enlarged spleen is sickle cell disease them it can have a significant affect on the pregnancy. however, I assume that you would have mentioned that if that were her diagnosis. if she only carries the sickle cell trait, it shouldn't have a significant effect either, only increasing the incidence of urinary tract infections. if the reason for her enlarged spleen is something else, please let me know and I would love to help you understand what possible issues there may be.
