Will High Doses Of Tagmet Causes Positive Result For Suboxin Drug?

My question is my ex husband took a drug test last week. he failed by testing positive for Suboxin. He has never been prescribed that. His doctor claims it could be cause by a false positive due to use of Tagmet. The Dr. says she believes that the ingredients in tagmet when taken high doses of can test positive for a Suboxin drug????? Is that possible?

Hi, thanks for your question.

It is not possible for cimetidine to give a false-positive result to suboxin. The only connection cimetidine has with suboxin is that it reduces the breakdown of suboxin, so makes it act longer. It does not cause a false-positive result.

However, there are other drugs which cause a false-positive result to including diphenydramine, and antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, rifampicin which should be excluded.

I hope i have answered your question.

Warm regards.
