Hi,
Thanks for the query. I am Dr Madhuri and I am a consultant obstetrician.
You had a low lying placenta in the earlier scan but the follow up scan shows that it has migrated upwards. This is good news. This is a classical case of migrating placenta and is quiet common.
I would like to share with you that placenta is the part of the
pregnancy that supplies all the blood and nutrients to the baby from the mother. In your case, initially the placenta was very near the part of the
uterus that has to open up during delivery for the baby to come out. If the placenta is attached to that part the baby does not have space to move down and normal delivery becomes difficult.
However on 85-90% women, the lower part of the uterus grows faster than the upper, and the placenta that was initially near the mouth of the uterus [cervix] now appears to be attached at a higher position. So it does not actually move, but since the uterus grows disproportionately the placenta is no longer low lying. This is exactly what has happened in your case and is really good news as now the placenta will not stop normal delivery.
The grading of placenta shows how mature the placenta is and a grade 2 at 28 weeks is fine.
Regarding the travel, I would not recommend travel in the third trimester as it may precipitate
preterm labor pains and leaking waters. You will be 36 weeks by the time you travel. The baby must be at least 37 weeks at the time of delivery for good outcomes. Travel if it is absolutely and go slowly avoiding bumps. Preferably travel in lying down position if possible.
Hope I was able to help you. Thanks for using Health Care Magic.
I would be happy to answer any further queries.
Have a nice day and a safe delivery.
