Will I Have The Risk Of COPD Once I Quit Smoking?

Hi. I am a long time smoker who is going to quit. I m going to use the patch. I quite once for 6 years but have been smoking for the last 8 yrs. Queston: How can I restore some lung health....or are they irreversibly damaged? Once I quit am I still at risk for COPD? Thanks.

I understand your concern.

Smoking cam lead to obstruction to lung alveoli and chronic smoker is suffering from such disorder like COPD.

Damage is reversible to some extent with total abstinence of smoking. Though most of the case it ia irreversible and require proper detail respiratory work up.

Pulmonary function test is thr choise to measure lung volume and its function.

Exercise and medicines can help to improve it.

Consult pulmonary specialist for details evaluation.

Better to avoid smoking for fast recovery.
