Will Injections For Child Birth Cause Discomfort In Shoulders And Back?

Thank you for being available. In 1950 , I had a spinal for childbirth and the saddleblock in 1953 again for birthing. All these years since, I have had much discomfort between my shoulders and in my lower back, which is the worst. Could it be from the injections? I am 80 so it isn t like I am going to have anything done, but is has come up in many talks and I am still curious. Thank you.

Hello,

I think the spinal or epidural anesthesia injections don't have any side effects on the body after so long.
I think the pain you are experiencing is related to other rheumatologic conditions. You may need to do a total blood count and x-ray of the spine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
