Hi, I have been on Cerazette for about 8 months now. To start, I used to get irregular spots of bleeding which wasn t a problem. But I have been bleeding non stop for about 10 days now and am going to Trinidad on Monday and really do not want to be bleeding while I am there. Will changing to Microgynon stop the bleeding?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
Microgynon is a combination oral contraceptive pill that contains two hormones, ethinylestradiol, and levonorgestrel. It is commonly used to regulate menstrual cycles and reduce menstrual bleeding. However, it is important to note that switching from Cerazette to Microgynon may not necessarily stop the bleeding immediately.
It is recommended that you speak with your healthcare provider before making any changes to your medication. Your healthcare provider can evaluate your situation and recommend the best course of action. In some cases, your healthcare provider may suggest taking a short course of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or a different type of hormone therapy to stop the bleeding.
Additionally, your healthcare provider may want to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be causing the bleeding. It is important to note that any changes in bleeding patterns should be discussed with your healthcare provider. If you experience heavy or prolonged bleeding, severe cramping, or other concerning symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
