The lasix and potassium are to prevent her heart from malfunctioning due to the abnormal circulation causing stress on the heart. The defect may either stay the same and keep causing problems or may become free from symptoms over years. It is impossible to say at this stage whether she has to have surgery. I would probably say she might need it later, once she is a bit heavier and bigger.
