Welcome to HCM, I have gone through you query and understood your concerns, I advice you do not peeling off the skin, the old skin is a protective barrier against germs if you peeling off you make more susceptible to bacterial infections, let the process works in the natural way, I suggest to apply some light moisturizer like Aloe Vera gel to keep the skin hydrated and relieve some discomfort.
Please kindly rate if my advise has been helpful
Wishing you a good health
