Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was on amlodipine/benz for bp, and also taking allopurinol for gout prevention. Trying to control by bp better, Dr. changed to : amlodipine 10 mg and bystolic. Dr. said the bystolic will help prevent gout, therefore no need to take allopurinol. Is Dr. right? I don t want to get gout again. Help

Will Taking Bystolic Prevent Gout?
Hello welcome to HCM. I have read your question and understand your concerns. No. I never heard that tab. Bystolic (nebivolol) can prevent gout or decrease uric acid levels. To prevent recurrent episodes of gout, your blood uric acid levels should be under control, and for that allopurinol is very good medicine. So, do your blood uric acid levels and if it s high than restart tab allopurinol. Thank you. Have a nice day.
