Will Taking Tetralysal In A Pregnancy Cause Its Termination?
I have just discovered I am 14 week pregnant, however, I have been taking Tetralysal (Lymecyclin) 300 for the last 10 weeks. I saw my GP on Friday who is now referring me for scans etc. but said that I really should not have been taking these whilst pregnant . I did not know I was preganant until last week. From the negative response from my doctor and various things she said I am assuming I will need a medical termination. Can anyone let me know if this is the case?
Hi & Welcome. I can understand your concern for the safety of Tetralysal during early pregnancy. First of all stop taking Tetralysal. It can cause abnormalities in the fetus (unborn baby) if taken during pregnancy. Tetralysal (Lymecycline) is a tetracycline antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria.
Taken during pregnancy, it can be deposited in growing bone, affecting the development of the skeleton, and in teeth, causing discoloration. Hence this medication is CONTRAINDICATED during pregnancy.
So, get the ultrasound scans done and consult a gynecologist for further medical advice. Hope this answers your query. A feed back is appreciated.
