Will Taking A Probiotic Cause Brownish/yellow Mucus In Stools?

I had hip replacement surgery 3 weeks ago. I have been on antibiotics for 4 weeks and 1 Norco at night for
sleep. The past 2 days I have had brownish/yellow mucous in my stools. No abdominal pain, nothing other than the mucous. I am taking a Probiotic each day.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Since you are recovering form the hip joint surgery and took antibiotic for 4 weeks, it changes the normal bacterial flora of the intestines and thus you may get the brownish yellow mucus in the stool.
This may not be due to the probiotics.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Get the stool test done for getting the cause of mucus in stool and if an infection if found out you may still need further course of an antibiotic active against intestinal infection.
Insist fr pre and probiotics for proper balance of the bacterial flora.
Also take Curds/Yogurt and bananas as these too help.
Activated charcoal too helps a lot.
If the medications do not help then you may need an opinion of a Gastroenterologist and go for colonoscopy and other tests as may be needed.
I find this answer helpful
