Hi, I have gone through your question. Ideally, one should have at least two years of seizure free interval before planning pregnancy. Oxetol is oxcabamazepine which has a risk of teratogenecity in approximately 1% fetus, of which the heart defects and neural tube defects (esp spina bifida) are common. The best option regarding antiepileptic drug treatment can be chosen only on an individual basis by the woman and neurologist before pregnancy, weighing the benefits of epilepsy control against the risk of teratogenicity.
I would suggest your wife to start folic acid 5 mg a day from now only because it decreases the risk of neural tube defects in the fetus by 75-80%.
Hope your question is answered. Please do vote if you found this answer helpful. Wishing you both good health.
